 Empowering Palestinian Women - Transforming Communities

Project is a three years Care International project funded by European Commission to be implemented in partnership with Women's Affairs Center (WAC) and

Women's Affairs Technical Committee (WATC) in Gaza Strip Targeting 8 Local Community Based Organizations (CBOS), journalists and women municipal council members.

 

The project aims to contribute to poverty eradication and promote gender equality and women's empowerment. The objective of the project is to build the capacity of grassroots community based organizations (CBOS) in the Gaza Strip to advocate for the interests of women in development strategies and strengthen the role of women in social, political and economic spheres of their communities.

 

Target Groups:

The project targets include 2,500 women in all five governorates of the Gaza Strip, WAC and WATC, ten community based organizations (CBOS), journalists and women municipal council members. The final beneficiaries will be 200,000 both men and women of all age groups all over the Gaza Strip.

The main activities will be:

1) Conducing organizational assessments and providing CBOS with tailored capacity building training in financial management, internal governance, proposal development and fundraising to CBOS.

2) Training CBOS in conducting participatory assessments and the development of community action plans that represent the interests of women.

3) Providing capacity building in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns and strengthening CSO networks.

4) Facilitating coalition building among CBOS and link grassroots efforts with initiatives at the regional and national level

5) Training CBOS to improve their analytical skills around women's rights and principles of social and economic development

6) Designing and implementing an awareness campaign intended to promote gender equality and implement activities intended to challenge gender stereotypes and attitudes using various media targeting youth

7) Training journalists and municipal council members in gender and development issues

 

Estimated Results:

The expected results of the project are as follows:

ER 1.  Organizational capacity of CBOS strengthened through tailored training in areas such as financial management, resource mobilization, and internal governance   

ER 2.  Increased knowledge and skills among CBOS in the use of participatory approaches for the development of community action plans that represent the interests of women

ER 3.  Improved capacity of CBOS to build coalitions and advocate for women's political participation and social and economic development

ER 4.  Attitudes towards gender norms and women's participation in social, political and economic spheres of their communities improved

WAC will be responsible for the implementation of Capacity building of the CBOS and WATC will be responsible for the implementation of Awareness Campaigns.
